Due to closure of Vilappilasala dumping ground, the park decided to introduce SWM system at their campus. We have prepared DPR and introduced an integrated ecofriendly economical SWM system, in the year 2014. We started door to door collections of 3.5 ton waste every day.
Biodegradable wastes are processed in biobins and biogas plants whereas non biodegradable rejections are sorted at the material collection center and forwarding to recycling units. The unit is now a destination of solid waste management training programmes conducting by Suchitwa mission, Government of Kerala.
We have installed Aerobic Microbial system to handle the daily generating 800-1000 kg of biodegradable waste in the hotel complex. The system was introduced by us in 2008 and still continuing successfully. The compost produced is utilized by them
for their gardens.
We are providing operation and maintenance services for KMRL for their biodigester plants installed in the 11 stations from Alwaye to Palarivattom.
The sewage waste treatment plant with a capacity of 2 MLD, constructed by us during the year 2010, is still functioning without any operational issues.
This is one of the major plants designed by us.
Other major STP plants build are as follows.
STP plant at Thiruvairanikulam temple build before the current festive season having a capacity of 50 KLD.
STP plant at Club Mahindra resorts situated at Ashtamudy having a capacity of 150KLD and was completed in December 2018.
STP plant at Infopark Phase 2, Ernakulam with a treatment capacity of 200KLD is running smoothly since the last four months.
We have provided biogas plants to the ESI hospital, Ernakulam. The plant with a capacity of 50kg of food waste is running very well since 2012. Suchitwa mission provided one Lakh rupees subsidy for the plant.
This is the oldest plant constructed by us in the government sector hospital.
On request of Trivandrum and Trichur corporations, in the instances of closure of Vilappilasala at Trivandrum and Laloor at Trichur dumping grounds, during the period 2010-11, we have introduced bio bin system in the apartment complexes.
We have shouldered the responsibility with the corporations to prevent the pollution in the cities by conducting education awareness programmes. Trivandrum Corporation recognized our initiative and released Rs.15,000/- subsidy to the beneficiaries installed biobins.
Developed light weighted FRP biobins, suitable for community level aerobic microbial composting at source. The biobins are in the size of 180cmx90cmx75cm, one
unit (2 bins). We have developed light weighted FRP biobins, suitable for community level aerobic microbial composting at source. The biobins are in the size of 180cmx90cmx75cm, one unit (2 bins) will have the capacity to handle biodegradable rejections generating daily from 40 apartments.
2500 BIOBINS ARE IN OPERATION.
80,000 RESIDENTS ARE BENEFITTED.
1250 persons are employed, majority are women from the low income families. 2400 tones of biodegradable waste processing in aerobic microbial composting. 480 tones compost generate per month (20% of input material).
In 2006, we have installed biobins in the shoulder road at Palarivattom Byepass, Ernakulam to demonstrate the ecofriendly management of waste generating from the residences of Vennala Division of Kochi Corporation.
CLEAN KOCHI ENDEAVOUR
We have taken initiative to enable residences of high raised apartment complexes to handle their own waste at source with the slogan “No need of segregation”
Do not mix. We have provided separate containers for wet and dry waste in the residences. We also conducted education and awareness classes with the help of builders’ fraternity in Kochi. It was a relief to Kochi Corporation as the Corporation doesn’t have proper waste handling facility at that time.
We are supplying bio digester pots having the size 30cm dia and 30cm height. One unit has three bio pots with a capacity to process 2kg biodegradable wastes daily to compost.
We are making biogas plants of various models. Our R&D department developed closed doom type biogas plant which is free from foul smell and mosquito breeding. We have already installed various models in different capacity ranging from 2.5kg to 2 ton/day. The end product of the biogas plant is liquid organic manure enriched with micro nutrients and plant friendly bacteria. In our experience from 1kg of input materials 40gms LPG equivalent biogas may generate. Above 3000 beneficiaries
are using our biogas plants at present.
We have developed and introduced special purpose grinders for reducing the size of all biodegradable rejections to juice form. The size reduction of organic materials enhances the capacity and life span of biogas plants.
We have developed new designs for converting septic tanks to biogas plants. The gas produced is filtered scientifically and used as heat energy.
Most of the residences in Kerala, depend on well water for drinking, it is observed that the septic tanks are the major source of drinking water pollution. We have designed biogas to septic tanks in such a way to
prevent the discharges from septic tank joining to the underground water. The septic tank discharge shall be used for gardening after proper filtration, the pathogens developing in the septic tanks get naturally destroying in the presence of oxygen and ultraviolet rays, it prevents ground water pollution.
The undersigned organized workshops on ecofriendly handling of non biodegradable rejections was attended by Mrs. Almithra Patel, the member of Supreme Court Commission and Prof. Vasudevan of Madurai Thyagaraja College. who invented the
usage of plastic in tarring were the faculties. The workshop aimed to convince the government on the need for ecofriendly handling of waste at source.
In 2008, we have introduced usage of shredded plastic for road tarring.
Using the plastic shredded by us, M.A. College Kothamangalam, Rajagiri College Kalamassery, Manappatipparambu Road at Kochi Corporation, Gosree bridge road near High Court, Ernakulam
has done polymerized road tarring. We have also supplied plastic shredding machines to various local self governments and took initiative to convince state government, the viability and need for its usages for road tarring. Recently government declared the usage of plastic in road tarring as a government policy.
We are joining in hands with the Ernakulam district Suchitwa Mission targeting Kothamangalam Assembly Constituency to be a zero waste constituency. It includes 8 Grama Panchayaths and one municipality. The population is 2,50,000, housing in
75,000 residences. We expect the blessings of central government especially our honorable Prime Minister Sri. Narendra Modi in our endeavor.
